     *******************************************************************************************

As a newly chartered club, we are progressing very quickly toward our short term service project activity and fundraising goal for our club before the end of the year.  In keeping with the RI goal of reducing infant and child mortality, we have chosen to provide financial assistance to combat homelessness in our community.  Ultimately, we will partner with another local charity which provides direct services to our homeless population.  By partnering with a local charity, we will increase our overall efficiency and effectiveness toward combating this issue.  We have a goal of raising $2,500.00 by the end of this calendar year.

Our first fundraising event will be associated with the annual Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce SeaFest.  The event date, September 25th, from 5:30 to 8:30pm typically draws an attendance in excess of 350 people.  We have been offered a free booth and four tickets in exchange for providing bottled water for attendees to purchase.  Additionally, we will ask for donations to support our service project.  We anticipate a net revenue of approximately $800.00 as the bottled water will be donated.  As an extra benefit, the event which is held at the Mariner’s Museum in Newport News,  will give attendees full access to all museum exhibits. For more information about SeaFest or to purchase tickets for the event and to support our efforts, please visit www.vpcc.org and follow the links.
