Bill has been a Rotarian since 1988 when he joined the Rotary Club of Petersburg, Virginia at the age of 25. Bill was a board member and President-elect of the Petersburg club when Bill and his wife, Lou, decided to move to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia in 1993. After moving, Bill was a member of the Rotary Club of James City County from 1993-1994 and the Rotary Club of the Virginia Peninsula from 1995-1996. In 1999, Bill joined the Rotary Club of Churchland located in Portsmouth, Virginia, and has served as a board member and President in 2002-2003. He was honored by the Churchland club as its Rotarian of the Year for 2005-2006. From 2003 to 2006, Bill served as an Assistant Governor for District 7600. Bill is a fourth level Paul Harris Fellow and a Benefactor. His wife and daughter, Lou and Betsy, are Paul Harris Fellows.
One of Bill’s proudest Rotary moments was nominating his mother, Joan, for membership in the Rotary Club of Petersburg in the early 90’s. Bill’s maternal great grandfather was a member of the Rotary Club of Asheville, N.C.
Bill graduated from Virginia Tech in 1986 with a degree in Finance. At Virginia Tech Bill was a letterman on the men’s soccer team and a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
Rotarian Bill is a Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer with Farmers Bank in Suffolk, VA. Bill started his banking career in 1986 in Richmond, VA. He is a 2002 graduate of the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management.
Bill was born and raised in Petersburg, VA. His wife, Lou, is a native of Suffolk, VA where they currently reside. They have one child, Betsy, who was born in 2001. They attend Ebenezer United Methodist Church. In addition to spending time with this family, Bill enjoys coaching youth soccer and basketball teams, playing basketball, and reading mystery novels. He is devoted Hokie fan, as well as an avid fan of the UNC basketball program, where his grandfather played.
